So our fifth day on the we got out of bed to the rain, it was poring and we were so glad that we were staying in the church. We stayed in the church and played the pianos and cooked up a ton of Krusteaz pancakes. (I spent a good portion of the day trying to make my self throw up, and Josh got ...... well .....sick) I think we got out of the church about one o'clock but we only had to ride a few miles that day so it all worked out.
That night we got into John day around five thirty and we were craving burgers, even after being sick all day. We went into the local joint and asked them to make us the biggest burger they had. They thought that was pretty funny but when I asked for a second one the server looked at me like I was crazy. They were so good I couldn't stop with one, I think it was about 1 1/3lbs of just burger meat. It started raining while we were eating so Jeff Neal came down and picked us up from the resturant and we stayed the night at his house. Thanks Jeff, we really loved those showers and the peaches.
After John Day we did 85 miles and three passes, Dixie pass, Tipton pass, and Sumpter Pass. I think that was the hardest day we had up till then. We ended up in Baker City that night and stopped and asked at a church if we could stay in their yard. We went into town to get a few things at the Safeway, but on our way in we met up with a guy who was totally decked out in fab bike gear. He asked us if we were in town for the bike races that were going on over the weekend. We had no idea, it was a total surprise to us. There were bikers all over the town, maybe 500 guys flaunting spandex so we felt very in style. There were four blocks of the down town blocked off and they were holding races and other bike events. It was a sweat evening!

Nice to hear from you. Sounds like too much spandex...
