Our seventh day we woke up to rain, but the people from the church let us come inside and dry all our stuff out and made us coffee. Thanks Baker City church people.
It was pretty late when we left Baker City so we decided to make it a short day and go to Richland which is only 40 miles up the road. When we got there we saw a park by the road with a dude doing some work in it. So we went over to ask if we could sleep under the shelter that was there. The guys name was Don and he was really nice and really funny and he was totally cool with us staying the night. Thanks Don you rock.

The Trail
So our fifth day on the we got out of bed to the rain, it was poring and we were so glad that we were staying in the church. We stayed in the church and played the pianos and cooked up a ton of Krusteaz pancakes. (I spent a good portion of the day trying to make my self throw up, and Josh got ...... well .....sick) I think we got out of the church about one o'clock but we only had to ride a few miles that day so it all worked out.
That night we got into John day around five thirty and we were craving burgers, even after being sick all day. We went into the local joint and asked them to make us the biggest burger they had. They thought that was pretty funny but when I asked for a second one the server looked at me like I was crazy. They were so good I couldn't stop with one, I think it was about 1 1/3lbs of just burger meat. It started raining while we were eating so Jeff Neal came down and picked us up from the resturant and we stayed the night at his house. Thanks Jeff, we really loved those showers and the peaches.
After John Day we did 85 miles and three passes, Dixie pass, Tipton pass, and Sumpter Pass. I think that was the hardest day we had up till then. We ended up in Baker City that night and stopped and asked at a church if we could stay in their yard. We went into town to get a few things at the Safeway, but on our way in we met up with a guy who was totally decked out in fab bike gear. He asked us if we were in town for the bike races that were going on over the weekend. We had no idea, it was a total surprise to us. There were bikers all over the town, maybe 500 guys flaunting spandex so we felt very in style. There were four blocks of the down town blocked off and they were holding races and other bike events. It was a sweat evening!

We spent our first night at the house of a wonderful lady named Sherman. She saw us sitting in the park down town Eugine and she stopped and asked us if we needed a lawn to sleep on. We had been waiting for Alexa to bring us the maps that we forgot (thank you so muchy Alexa) so we went with her to the house. Sherman had a beautiful big grassy yard that we were very greatful for but on top of that she made us dinner and let us use her kitchen, it was really nice of her. Thank you Sherman
The second day was Eugine to Clear Lake, it was a pretty straight forward day no big passes or anything. We did gain over 2000 feet of elevation which kicked our butts. We were riding up the McKenzie river most of the day which is a beautiful ride, I recomend it. We camped off the road in the woods by Clear Lake. The map showed a fork and knife there so we thought we could get food but it turned out to be a picknic spot so we didn't really have much food, only a few things to cook but no gas for our stove (nice one jandw). I think we had raw pasta, protien bars, and some jerky. It was a little ruff.
Day three started out a lot like the end of day two, no food and we could hardly push our peddles down. This time we had to get over the Santiam Pass(4718ft). Luckily we got warmed up and were able to push on to the top of the pass which took all the heave and ho we had. When we did finally get to the summit we stopped to take a picture and this guy named Larry pulled over and asked us if we wanted some food or money. Normaly I don't think I would have gone for it, but come on, what would you have done. He gave us a bunch of wonderful snacks and goodies, which was just what we needed to get to Sisters and get some food. Thanks Larry, you saved us. When we did get to do some shopping we walked around the store and wondered how our mothers did it all those years. W ended up getting some really quality PBandJ makings. Sister to Redmond is about 20 miles and we busted it out in 50 minutes which if you dont know is kind of a big deal. In Redmond We got a gallon of gas for our stove and the speedometer went all whack(creepy) on us. We were not that impressed by Redmond so we left. We tryed to make it to the town of Prineville, which was not as impressive a time as our last pull, which means it took us a long time. The town of Prineville is really an awesome town, they have nice cops and lots and lots of well kept parks. We really wanted to sleep in the park but the cops said they would come in the night as harass us, but they did give us a nice alternitive. They sent us down to the East Side Community Church who hooked us up with a nice patch of grass to sleep on. We ended up going to Subway for dinner and I(walker) was trying to score points with the workers to get extra goodies on my sub and I guess I asked for tons of horseradish so they really got friendly and dumped it on, I started crying.

We got an early start today, some time after nine...... we went to the local store to fill up our water bottles and while Josh was in the bathroom I asked where we could get some water. Josh thought we could use the fountain draank water but the ladie said to use the pump outside and when I told Josh about it he looked like he wanted to pull a gun on the people, and start demanding we use the fountain drinks. He calmed down after an hour or so though. The ride started out hard, really hard. We stopped every five miles and stretched or took pictures. After the third stop or so, we got back in our groove and got some miles done. We put the spank on Ochoco pass(4720), and reached the top around noon. Then we wizzed down a few thousand feet to the town of Mitchell. If your interested there is a big bear in a cage named henry who likes to hit the fence when you walk by. Im not sure if Mitchell is a town or what but it felt weird, the guy in the store and all the bikers who come through are the only people in the town. Then we started the long hellish pass known as Keyes Creek pass(4357ft) its not as high but it is very steep and it was hot. Its not something I can really explain well, youjust have to try it to know how hard it is. The down hill was an amazing break, we did 30 miles in an hour and ten minutes, yeah we rock. The last few miles into Dayville were not so hot for me(walker) 4mph max I wanted to just fall over and start sleeping, but I had to keep following Josh because he really didn't want to stop till the town. When we got to the town Josh found a store and I found a bench. I waited while josh went off to the store for some meat, but when he came back he was holding a bag of Doritos...... kind of like meat. While he was away some people asked me if we would like to stay at a church up the street that has this great program for bikers. We went for that deal like a fat kid into a cake eating contest. We were so happy to take showers and lay all our stuff everywhere. This place is heaven sent, I dont think I want to leave.
